The Durban Aerotropolis master plan provides a development framework for the next 50 years of growth within the confines of KwaZulu-Natal’s premier airport precinct.

By anticipating and responding to the region’s potential trends and challenges, the master plan creates a favourable physical environment for investment through integrated and co-ordinated spatial planning, integrated multi-modal transport networks, infrastructure and engineering services, and environmental sustainability measures.

INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT


King Shaka International Airport, owned and operated by Airports Company South Africa, is a new generation airport with a 3.7km runway - the longest runway at sea level in South Africa - capable of accommodating the world’s largest aircraft.It has two rapid taxi-ways and the capacity to handle 23 air traffic movements per hour. The airport terminal has the capacity to handle 7.5 million passengers per annum in its first phase and facilitated 6.1 million passengers pre-COVID-19 pandemic.
