MABUYAKHULU TO UNVEIL A MULTI-MILLION RAND INTERNATIONAL
TRADE AVENUE AT DUBE TRADE PORT
In a move that looks set to further bolster investor appetite and confidence in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Michael Mabuyakhulu will unveil a multi-million rand International Trade Avenue at the Dube TradePort (DTP).
The Dube TradePort, which incorporates the King Shaka International Airport, is the biggest infrastructure investment by the province of KwaZulu-Natal in the past few years.
The completion of this 3.25 km dual carriage highway (previously known as the Watson Highway Link Road) which runs parallel to Dube TradeZone, north of the air traffic control tower, marks a milestone in the precinct’s future expansion plans.
This dual carriage highway is a key access route into the Dube TradePort, providing for additional capacity for traffic volumes moving through the precinct.
The road also allows for coming phases of Dube TradeZone developments to come on-stream, by opening up new land parcels in Dube TradeZone 2 and 3 for investment.
Commenting ahead of the launch which will occur next week, MEC Michael Mabuyakhulu said the Investment augured well for both the sustained growth of Dube TradePort and job creation for the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
“The project took a total of 34 months to complete, with an investment amount of R200 million and a total jobs yield of 440 jobs during the construction phase.
The fact that throughout the various stages of the project over R10 million of the total investment amount was awarded to SMME’s gives expression to our call for emerging enterprises also play a role in development initiatives in the province,” Mabuyakhulu said.
The road has been designed to provide for a future dedicated public transport system in the center island of the dual carriageway. This will either consist of a light rail transport system or a rapid bus transport system or a combination of both.
